My first ever Burns Night! (can’t believe it took me until this age to attend one!) And what an absolute honour it was to giev the “Reply Fae The Lassies”.
Having never been to one of these beforeI was unsure of howe the night would unfold, and the one thing I quickly learned – the speakers, the showmanship, the speeches, the songs – amazing. I was blown away by the amount of talent in the room that night.
Gary Robertson is the binman come street poet of Dundee, and to hear him rhyme off his poetry, and MC the whole night – what a funny guy.
Panto Legend, and treader of many boards, Barrie Hunter addressed the Haggis with great enthusiasm. Sheena Wellington sang Scots songs, Billy Kay gave the Immortal Memory and with all this it just made me really proud to be Scottish.
The Reply Fae The Lassies is pretty much the last speech of the night (minus the thank-you’s and closing speeches), so to stand up after seeing all the talent in the room was quite nerve-wracking. The good news, people laughed in the right places!
The whole point of this speech is to poke fun at the lads, so this worked well for me!
It’s a new event under my belt, and if you’d like a reply fae the lassies at your burns night I’d be more than happy to continue the fun poking next year!
